Ch 3

3.1 page 108: 10, 14, 16, 25

3.3 page 122: 17, 28, 29.  Question 28 was also on HW#51.

Rev. page 132: 5, 12, 13, 14, 21

Answers to p.108, Question 10: 495.  Question 14: 411.8.  Question 16:  (a) growing = i, ii, iv.  shrinking = iii, v, vi. (b) growing fastest = iv, 18.5%/year. (c) shrinking fastest = v, 22%/year. (d) largest initial = iii, 2500; smallest initial = ii, 600.
Answers to p.122, Question 28: Domain: all x. Range: y<8. xint. (3, 0). yint. (0, 7).  H. Asy. y=8. Make Table. Graph.

Answers to p.132, Question 12: Not linear because successive slopes increase, 25, 30, 36.  Can be exponential since successive ratios are 1.2.  150/125=1.2, 180/150=1.2, 216/180=1.2. A possible formula is 125(1.2)xQuestion 14: Not linear.  Slopes decrease.  Ratios are all 0.5 so a possible formula is a half-life formula 256(0.5)x.

Ch 4

4.1 page 149: 35

4.3 page 165: 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11.  Question 9 was also on HW#53.

Rev. page 177: 7, 9, 17

Answer to p.165, Question 2: (A) 3x, because it grows the fastest with the largest base=3, (B) 2x, (C) ln(x), (D) log(x), because it is base 10, larger than e, (E) e-x, because it has a negative exponent.
