Student folders on the desktop are named yourname-miniterm. (For example, drkral-miniterm).
Find photos in the DCIM folder on the camera memory card.
Put photos not submitted for assignments into a folder with this name: unsorted. You are encouraged to take lots of pictures some of which will be used in your final project, your individual photo book.

DAY 2 - Tuesday Week 1 - Lafayette Reservoir

Look at your four A2 photos and write a +Δ. Write something positive (Plus +) and something to change (Delta Δ).
Make a page with a list of things to do. Make a page with a list of questions.
A3: Assignment 3 - Fill In Flash

Take portrait photos outdoors of the same person.
Submit 4 photos.
1. Subject facing towards the sun without flash.
2. Subject facing towards the sun with flash (Auto Flash will not do this in sunny conditions. Most cameras need to be in the Program Mode (called Manual on one camera type that only has two modes total).
3. Subject facing away from the sun without flash.
4. Subject facing away from the sun with flash.
A4: Assignment 4 - Subject Clearly Defined + Feeling

Take lots of photos of natural subjects. The subject of each photo should be clearly defined so a viewer will know what the photo is about. Try to take some pictures that evoke a certain feeling and mood.
Submit only 4 photos total. They are not required to have a "feeling".
DAY 3 - Wednesday Week 1 - Tilden Park
A5: Assignment 5 - Landscape
Folder: a5-yourname-landscape
Landscape. Use the widest angle lens (no zoom). Try to include something in the foreground. Experiment with the exposure by focusing on land or sky before re-composing the image with both land and sky (press button half way). Optional: take three photos next to each other for stitching into a panorama.
Submit 2 photos. Optional: submit a panorama, in addition.
A6: Assignment 6 - Up close
Folder: a6-yourname-upclose
Up close photography.
Use the macro setting (the flower). See how close you can get and still have the camera lock into good focus. Try wide angle first (no zoom).
Submit 1 photo.
C1: Computer 1 - Bridge and Photoshop: Crop and Level
Intro to Bridge and Photoshop.
Download (copy) the 6th photo from the sample1 folder on the website. Put it into your own sample1 folder. Find the photo in Bridge, double click to open it in Photoshop, crop the photo and adjust levels. Save as a new jpeg file, DSC_6298a.jpg. Learn the command-0 and command-L shortcuts.
H1: Homework for Day 4 (Thursday Week 1)
Read parts of Chapter 4 on Exposure. Pages 92-111. If it is too technical, skip the first section on ISO.
Optional: Read the "jump start Photoshop" part of Chapter 13, pages 343-351.
DAY 4 - Thursday Week 1 - Marin Headlands, Rodeo Beach
A7: Assignment 7 - Golden Gate Bridge

1. Take a conventional or touristy photo of the bridge
2. Take an artistic, unusual, and/or unconventional photo that contains some (not too obvious) identifiable part of the bridge.
A8: Assignment 8 - Waves

Take two different "action" shots of waves.
A9: Assignment 9 - Action People

Submit 2 photos
Take two different action shots of people (Bentley students allowed).
A10: Assignment 10 - Ourselves for Yearbook

Submit 2 photos or more. You can add as many photos as you like to this assignment, from any of the 9 days of mini-term.
Take photos that could (or will) be submitted to yearbook. Bentley students in an outdoors setting engaged in photography during mini-term.
Minimum: 2 photos. You may submit photos used in other assignments.

Make a Powerpoint presentation of each of the assignments.

DAY 6
J3: Journal/Scrapbook - Plus Delta on Assignment Book
On the provided printout of the Assignment Book, write Plus Delta comments.
Put in your scrapbook/journal.
A11: Assignment 11 - Portrait
Folder a11-yourname-portrait
Make portraits. Both candid and posed. Take photos of us in the class, students in pinball, students making bread, or anyone in the courtyard. Pretend to shoot for yearbook or your own photo book.
Edit in Photoshop as much as you want.
Select your top 4 photos. Print on one piece of paper, using Powerpoint or Adobe.
H2: Homework 2 assigned on Day 6
Read Chapter 10 on Composition, pages 251-269. Learn about the Rule of Thirds.
Review "Jump start Photoshop" on pages 342-351 in Chapter 13.
DAY 7
A12: Assignment 12 - Rule of Thirds

Part A: Horizon / Strong Horizontal Line - 3 photos (selected, take drafts)
1. Horizon in center. 2. Horizon high (1/3 from top). 3. Horizon low (1/3 from bottom).
Part B: Center of Interest - object (not portrait) - 2 photos (take lots of drafts)
4. Subject in center of frame. 5. Subject positioned according to the Rule of Thirds.
Select your top 5 photos.
Edit in Photoshop as much as you want.
Print on one piece of paper, using Powerpoint or Adobe.
H3: Homework 3 assigned on Day 7
Read Chapter 11 on Action.
J4: Scrapbook/Journal assigned on Day 7, due Day 8
Organize the Journal/Scrapbook with the black and white printouts printed so far.
The Journal/Scrap book is to be turned in at the beginning of Day 8 (Wednesday).
DAY 9
A13: Assignment 13 - Perspective
Folder: a13-yourname-perspective
Submit 4 photos: before and after Photoshop for two subjects (one has to be architecture) [i.e. two before-after pairs]
Take photos of architecture, buildings, and other things with straight lines (outdoors) and pay attention to perspective.
Edit in Photoshop by cropping with perspective. Learn from sample2 images.
A14: Assignment 14 - Panorama
Folder: a14-yourname-panorama
Take three photos that overlap. If you can, keep the following settings the same: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
Edit in Photoshop. This will teach you layers. Practice on sample2 images. Flatten image and save to jpeg.
Submit 1 photo.
Final Project - your personal Photo Book is due. Instructions are on the website.
